Fashion Shoot: Josée

As some of you may know, I am currently studying Photography at the Dieppe Community College. Classes started in September and I am really enjoying it so far. While it was a bit of a slow start, we are now getting into more interesting projects and we get to shoot a variety of styles of photography, such as portraits and commercial photography, just to name a few.

Since I may not have much to blog starting now (as all my weddings are done for the 2009 season), I will start to blog some of my school projects so that I can continue to update my blog frequently. So keep on checking from time to time, as there might be some new content every now and then!

Last week’s project in my “technical photography” class was to shoot a portrait using a telephoto lens and a wide angle lens.  The goal was to experiment with different focal lengths to see what effect they had on perspective. I needed a model for the shoot, so I called Josée to see if she was interested. I’ve known Josée for a few years now, as she is one of my co-worker’s daughter. I knew she would do a wonderful job. How can she not?! She’s so pretty that even if she would just stand there, it would make a beautiful portrait!

We started outside for the “telephoto” portrait. I love the look of these pictures! They remind me of a Fall Fashion Shoot for a clothing line!

Once I was happy with these pictures and I knew I had at least a good one to give to my professor for the project, I decided to change locations to give a different look for the wide angle series. The goal for the next picture was to use the wide angle to distort the perspective and exaggerate it. As you can see, this is why photographers normally don’t use a wide angle lens for portraits! They tend to make whatever is closer to the camera appear larger. It makes for some funny and interesting shots, nonetheless.!

After this shot, I had what I needed for the project but we decided to have a little fun and shoot some extra frames. Plus, I had to take advantage of my “natural light studio”! (Thanks LeBlanc family! :P) Can you believe this is Josée’s first time modeling?! She was a real pro and was great to work with!

I really enjoyed shooting this project, which turned out to give me some awesome shots to add to my portfolio. And maybe to Josée’s portfolio too! I have a shoot in mind that I want to do and Josée will be the perfect fit! So stay tuned for more pics of this natural model! I would also like to thank my friend Maxime for being my assistant that day! He helped us with the diffusers and reflectors for the first series. Without his help, the light would not be as beautiful, since we were shooting in full sun!
