For those of you who have been following my blog, you’ve certainly noticed a change. Over the last few months, I have been working on this new look for my blog. It all started even before that, with the thought of needing a change. I was tired of the old look: the blog header, font, logo and overall feel. The concept of “branding” has always interested me (being a marketing major!) so it was time to put some thoughts into it. What kind of look and feel do I want? What type of clients do I want to attract? All of these were types of questions I asked myself.
One of the first aspects I started to work on was my new logo. I knew I wasn’t going to design it myself (my strength doesn’t lie in Illustrator… it’s Photoshop!) but I had to have an idea of what I wanted. One day, while browsing online, I came across a 4-leaf clover. A light bulb came on! I’m born on St-Patrick’s day (yes, in a few days!) so it was kind of fitting! We all know a 4-leaf clover means luck, but after a bit of research, according to legend each petal of the clover means: hope, faith, love and luck. How wedding appropriate! I had a concept, now it was time to develop it. I contacted a former co-worker of mine, Lex Regier, who is a recent graphic design graduate. I knew she would be more than happy to get on board this project. After a few rounds of contact, the final logo took shape. It looks awesome and Lex was great to work with! (If you need some graphic design work done, contact me and I’ll get you in contact with her!)
The next big step was the new blog. Why so simple and minimalist you ask? Why not. My goal was not to see how many different colors or design elements I could stuff into one look. Not that some colourful blogs don’t look great… it’s just not the look I was going for. I believe the photos stand out and are the center of attention on the clean white background. After all, it’s all about the photos! Plus, it looks very modern and fashion-forward. The blog was by far the bulk of the work. Even though it’s very simple looking, I have spent numerous hours working on the content (pages, portfolio images, featured weddings slideshows, etc.). Not to mention all the setting up and back-and-forth emailing with my hosting/blogging company to get all of this properly setup! I should also thank Jill Renton of Scuffed Boots Photography for meeting with me a while back to try and get all of this installed! She was nice enough to take some of her time and help me out!
Finally, I still have a few more things to get done, such as business cards, pricing guides, marketing materials and the such. However, I’m very happy with all the work that has been done up to now and I am proud to finally launch my new look for 2011 and on!
I’d love to hear what you think! Feel free to leave a comment!
